Hammet thrilled with Hurricanes Squads
10/11/2010 12:30:30 p.m.
New Hurricanes Head Coach Mark Hammett is thrilled with the calibre of the group of players he has assembled for the 2011 campaign, with a squad which boasts a total of 947 Hurricanes appearances between them, along with seven new caps: Michael Bent, Laurence Corlett, Chris Eaton, Jack Lam, Charlie Ngatai, Mark Reddish and Julian Savea.
"I’m really excited by this squad," he enthused. "When you look at it, it’s very experienced, but there are also a few new caps in there. I’m happy for a guy like Mark Reddish who has grown up watching the Hurricanes and worked extremely hard over the last few years to make it to this level.
"With the injury to Karl Lowe, which will keep him out of action for the majority of the season, we’ve obviously stacked the squad more heavily with forwards. His unavailability, and that of Piri Weepu, highlights that the players we select in the Wider Training Group are just one injury away from being called into the main squad, so the composition of that group will be equally important."
"From my perspective, it’s great to get started as a head coach with such a wonderful group of players."
